The hotel staff was cheerful and helpful and this behavior did not seem forced. In fact, the whole atmosphere felt relaxed. The hotel is made up largely of two-storey units surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. We stayed on the second - and top - storey and our children were delighted by the absence of roof overhead in the "hallway" outside the rooms. (There are drains in the floor to collect the less than 12 inches of annual rainfall in San Diego.) The hotel has three swimming pools - with water slides - that the kids just loved. They are very well heated so can be enjoyed in the day or at night. The hotel's nicer restaurant - The Red Marlin - is a bit pricey, but the food and service go a long way towards justifying the expense. Minuses do exist: Room service tacks on a hefty service charge and a * % gratuity (This I noticed only after we'd received the bill. These facts were hidden in teeny tiny print on the bottom of the menu.) The music by the pool was quite loud. The kids loved it, and we bore it, but I recommend booking a room away from the pools so that the music doesn't become an issue. Finally - and this could be a plus or a minus - the hotel is a bit far removed from San Diego action. If you want to go "see things" you are pretty dependent on having a car. That said, Old Town San Diego is a 10-minute and La Jolla a 20-minute drive. (Downtown SD is about 1/2 hour away.) All in all, though, this was one of the best hotel stays I've ever had, in large part because there was so much to please all of us.

Absollutely perfect. The setting on the bay and close to the ocean was beautiful. I was lucky enough to have a "bay view" room. The staff were inpecable ~ helpful in every way. The restaurant had wonderful food. I was more than comfortable and pleased. My only complaint is that there were no vending machines for sodas, and the cost of $* for a bottle of water seemed outrageous, especially since the refriigerator was not on and therefore the water was not cold.

I gave my daughter and her husband a date night at home and took my grandchildren to the Hyatt for the night. The pools are equiped with 3 water slides which are open from 10-4. They went in the pool immediately after check-in at 4 and found they were closed but we planned to stay for a while after we checked out so they could enjoy the waterslides. The Red Marlin at the Hyatt was great for dinner outside by the firepit, with wonderful blackened Swordfish for me with mashed sweet potatoes, my new favorite and green beens almondine done to perfection. The kids had mac and cheese and chicken fingers. We liked it so much we went back for breakfast the next morning. They had a cereal bar where the kids could select the kind they wanted. Prices were surprisingly affordable. The beds and pillows were comfy. We enjoyed our stay.

Great views of the bay. We stayed in the suites, in the 3 floor building next to the main tower. Rooms are nicely re-done, but much about the building seems very dated : doors are old and sticky, mini deck spotted with seagull poop. They charge $* per day for parking, which was a bummer. Pool area is fun with lots of kids. Restaurant was average.

Our stay with my teenage son was fantastic, and we really enjoyed our trip and being "pampered". The staff was really excellent and all really excelled in helping us enjoy our vacation. Their pool area with slides and hot tub and movies at night is a great hang out place. They have special "pillow bed" mattresses, and even my teenage son thought they were great! The beautiful location in Misson Bay, and their restaurant for breakfast buffet was also excellent. I can't say enough good things about the wonderful experience we had.
